Rugby Philosophy in Form 4 & 41

Rugby is played for enjoyment. It is played to develop the boys socially, physically and emotionally.

I will pick 4 teams each week. Each week I will make small changes to personnel and positions from the previous week. Some weeks your son will play the full game, others he will play one half. Over the course of the season all boys will play the same amount of games.

The boys will be informed of the weeks fixtures on Tuesday and must know their availability by Wednesday. The teams will then be posted online on Wednesday afternoon.

In St. Mary’s we coach boys and skills, not drills and teams, our teams are inclusive of all interest and ability levels. I hope you enjoy cheering on your son and his opposition this year.

Spike Milligan in Form 4 – Learn 1 poem for Thursday

On the Ning Nang NongOn the Ning Nang Nong
Where the Cows go Bong!
and the monkeys all say BOO!
There’s a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang
And you just can’t catch ’em when they do!
So its Ning Nang Nong
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning
Trees go ping
Nong Ning Nang
The mice go Clang
What a noisy place to belong
is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!Spike Milligan
GrannyThrough every nook and every cranny
The wind blew in on poor old Granny
Around her knees, into each ear
(And up nose as well, I fear)All through the night the wind grew worse
It nearly made the vicar curse
The top had fallen off the steeple
Just missing him (and other people)It blew on man, it blew on beast
It blew on nun, it blew on priest
It blew the wig off Auntie Fanny-
But most of all, it blew on Granny!Spike Milligan

STORY WEEK; February 1st

Dear Parents,

Next week Feb 1st is Story Week in school and we’ve trips and in class activities all week dedicated to creating stories. The theme this year is Irish Myths and Legends.

As part of this I would like to show the class a classic myth film on Friday; I’m including The Hobbit, An unexpected Journey which is 12A as an option for the boys to watch.

If any parent has concerns about their son watching this movie please email me brianobarron@gmail.com and I’ll remove it as an option (confidentially of course).

Brian.

1916 Google Tour – Excellent Resource; dublinrising.withgoogle.com

Next Friday 22.01.16 we have the presentation of the Tri-Colour by the Irish army to the Junior School. The boys need to learn the National anthem before that.

Anthem with Lyrics

Amhrán na bhFiann

Sinne Fianna Fáil
A tá fé gheall ag Éirinn,
buion dár slua
Thar toinn do ráinig chugainn,
Fé mhóid bheith saor.
Sean tír ár sinsir feasta
Ní fhagfar fé’n tiorán ná fé’n tráil
Anocht a théam sa bhearna bhaoil,
Le gean ar Ghaeil chun báis nó saoil
Le guna screach fé lámhach na bpiléar
Seo libh canaídh Amhrán na bhFiann.

A Soldier’s Song

Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
Sworn to be free,
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin’s cause, come woe or weal
‘Mid cannons’ roar and rifles peal,
We’ll chant a soldier’s song.

Each boy needs to bring a newspaper to school for Tuesday 12th Jan (if possible). Preferably a broadsheet.

Thanks.

Friday 13th November – If each boy could bring in a magazine/or colour supplement from a newspaper for next Friday it would be great. We’re doing a poster on Friendship and being ‘A Mary’s Man’.

Help your son learn the times tables HERE!!!!

https://www.mathsisfun.com/tables.html

Ho ho ho!!! It’s Christmas Time!!! (terrifyingly)

A note from the Parents Association.

Form 4 are planning to take a stall at the Christmas Fair on 28th November.

It is called ‘Jolly Jam Jars’ and each family must produce at least 10 standard size jam jars or larger-filled with Sweets/Lollipops/Stickers/Lego/Tattoos /Small toys/Chocolate/Coins/colouring pencils/erasers/lego /Plastic jewellery etc etc. Its a great way to use up Halloween sweets/party bag toys etc

You can be artistic or imaginative and get the kids to help or alternatively just get us the filled jars and we will do the rest.
Please get them to Maria O’Brien or Sarah Halpin before November 20th.
ALL QUERIES TO MARIA OR SARAH.

School Trip;

Thursday 22nd October we are going to Dublinia for our first school tour. I was wondering if any mums or dads would be available to give lifts (off set the cost of hiring a bus). We would be leaving school at 9.30am and need collecting from Christchurch at 12.00pm (approx).

If you’re available please email me brianobarron@gmail.com. Thanks.
